April 2022 | Books and Live Concerts

Heidi ho, readers! I haven’t done a monthly wrap-up in so long!

This month was crazy! Between multiple birthdays I also had the opportunity to attend two concerts! I haven’t been to a concert in years!

The first concert I went to was Rhett Walker. He was touring with Tasha Laton and my brother’s favorite rapper Peabod.

This was my favorite part of the show!

A few weeks later I went with some friends to see Sanctus Real who was touring with Stars Go Dim and Tim Timmons.

The weather down in western Nebraska has been interesting. Yesterday I was wearing a t-shirt and riding my bike to the store with my brother to get some soda. I woke up this morning and it’s snowing. How’s the weather where you live? I’m so ready for summer!

I have been going through a tough reading slump lately… So much for my goal! I asked for advice over on my Instagram (@the_adventures_of_a_nerd by the way) for advice and I was told to read an old favorite. As you guys know, I am a brand new Hunger Games fan. I have never seen the movies and only started reading the books. I finished catching fire last month and decided that while I wait for Mockingjay to ship I might as well re-read the first book.

Oh my gosh. I love this book. It’s almost better the second time!

I also just bought the entire Percy Jackson series. My TBR list is growing rapidly. I read the first book a few years ago and didn’t care much for it. But I think it was just the wrong book at the wrong time, you know? I’ve been wanting to continue the series and now there’s nothing stopping me. I was going to skip over the first book since I’ve already read it, but a friend of mine has convinced me to start over from the beginning, so I guess I’ll be binge-reading five books next month *fingers crossed.*

It’s camp nano season, so I haven’t watched anything new, but last week I went to see “The Bad Guys.”

Writing hasn’t been going so smoothly this month… I’m editing draft 4 of “3859” and I find myself putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on myself to make everything perfect. The problem with writing the same story four times is that you get too close to the project. I can no longer tell the difference between its flaws and strengths. Once I finish this draft I’m going to hand it over to some friends and family to read and give me advice. Hopefully, that will lift my spirits a bit.

I know I’m just overthinking everything. I just love this book so much and I want others to love it too. I’m starting to see a pattern in my books and that is that they are usually strange ideas. Not that the events that take place in “3859” are unique and unheard of, they’re just different than that of its market.

I was thinking the other day about every writer’s favorite quote “write the book you want to read.” That’s what I’m doing. So why are those same writers telling me that my book won’t make it in today’s market? Just because it’s not your typical angsty fantasy assassin romance doesn’t mean it doesn’t have an audience.

I’ll be posting part 10 of Book in Progress later this month and I’m planning on sharing my publishing plan with you guys! This book is nowhere near ready for publishing, but I’ve been looking into different means of publishing anyways.

I haven’t formally shared this playlist with you, but it’s one of my favorites and I think you’ll like it too!

I have posted twice a week since I started this blog. I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to give myself a little bit of a break so I have only been posting once a week. Though I miss posting so much, I will admit that this is way easier.

My most popular post: What Happened to the Podcast and My Camp NaNo Projects!

One you might have missed: Cyrano | Spoiler-free Review

I have tons of writing-related content coming up this month! If there is anything you are interested in seeing over here go ahead and leave suggestions in the comments.

How was your month?

Thanks a bunch!

  1. It sounds like you’re still getting lots of reading done. I find life so busy these days, I’m lucky if I can read 2 books per month. But your post has inspired me to give more time to reading. I have SO MANY unread books!
