Thriftbooks Haul!

Heidi ho readers! Welcome to a book haul! I’ve never done a haul before, but I’ve been wanting to order from thriftbooks for a long time. Once or twice a month I would go and fill up the cart, but never check out.

But, I finally got around to it! I ordered seven books and spent roughly around $35.

The website itself is really nice and easy to use, and who can argue with getting used books for cheep? The shipping was pretty fast and most of the books are in great condition.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks

I knew as soon as I found out that the phantom menace novelization was a thing I had to have it. I forgot I ordered the hard cover. It was like ten cents cheaper, so I switched copies at the last second. I was shocked when I opened the package and saw Darth Maul instead of Obi-Wan.

This book is based off the screenplay for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. I ordered this book in the ‘very good’ condition and it didn’t disappoint.

The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall

The Penderwicks was a summer tradition when I was in middle school. Needless to say, it’s been a few years.

This book is about the four Penderwick sisters who find themselves in a beautiful estate called Arundel for the summer holidays. They meet the house owner’s son, Jeffrey, and that’s when all the fun and adventures start.

I ordered this book in a ‘good’ condition, and it’s in great shape apart from a coffee stain on the back.

Imprisoned In Iran by Dan Baumann

This book is about the true story of “an American named Dan Baumann who was wrongly accused of espionage and thrown into the most infamous high-security prison in Iran. In that unlikely place, under the threat of execution and in the midst of despair, Dan witnessed the powerful triumph of God’s love over fear.”

Dan Baumann was on the voice of the martyrs simulcast this year, and I really wanted to get his book. I didn’t think I would be able to find it on thrift books.

I got this book in ‘like new,’ it doesn’t look like it’s ever been read!

True Grit by Charles Portis

True grit is about a fourteen-year-old girl who (and I quote) hires a boozy, trigger-happy lawman to help her find avenge her father’s murder.

I ordered this in ‘acceptable’ condition, and it’s definitely like new. The cover is a little damaged but there’s really nothing wrong with it.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

This book details the conflict between two rival gangs divided by their socioeconomic status: the working-class “greasers” and the upper-class “Socs”

I got this in ‘good’ condition and there’s nothing wrong with it.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of fairy tale retellings, but I was really intrigued about a science fiction retelling of Cinderella. Being a sci-fi writer myself, and Cinderella being my favorite Disney Princess growing up.

I ordered the copy in “good condition” and it came with a crushed cover and a few bent pages.

The Adventures of Tintin: The secret of the Unicorn by Herge

AHH!!! I LOVE TINTIN! This was the book I was most excited for. This is the second book in the Tintin series and is what the 2011 film is based on.

It was under ‘good’ condition and the only damage to the book is a few scuffs on the cover that are only noticeable under close inspection.

I’m very happy with my purchase and will definitely order from thriftbooks again! Now all I have to do is decide which book to read first…

Thanks a bunch!
