April 2021 wrap-up

Hello! I haven’t done a monthly wrap-up since November, and I’m thrilled to bring them back! Let’s take a look at what went on here at the adventures of a nerd this past month!

As you know, I’ve been MIA for the past month. I have been fast-drafting, and I’ve run out of post ideas. BTW, if you have any post requests, questions about me, or an old series you would like me to bring back go ahead and ask.

Reading

Why books are better than the movies made from them ...

I have been interested in reading the hunger games for a while. I have never seen the movie, and the only thing I knew about the series was that it’s a dystopian. I read it in two days. I can’t remember the last time I read a book so fast. The suspense and pacing was carried out wonderfully!

I’m actually going to order the box set because I can see myself reading this book(s) again.

Over all, I would give it a seven and a half, maybe an eight out of ten. I can’t wait to read the other books. I feel like I’m always late jumping on to a popular thing.

Northanger Abbey - Alma Books

I started listening to Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey audio book. I’m about halfway through and haven’t had time to finish. I like it!

I also started reading the selection. I didn’t really know what it was about, but I recognized it as a popular book, so I decided to check it out. I knew it was a spin-off of the bachelor, but what I didn’t know was that it was also a spin on the Hunger Games.

Now, obviously, I just read the hunger games, and I’m not looking for a cheep knock off. I think that if I would’ve known it was a dystopian I wouldn’t have picked it up. I’m about a 1/3 of the way through, and I don’t know if I want to finish.

You would think I would’ve learned by now that just because a book is popular doesn’t mean it’s good. I made this mistake a few months ago and discovered I can not stand YA contemporaries.

Writing

Like I said before, I’ve been fast drafting! If you would like to know all about my current journey, be sure to check out my ‘book in progress’ series.

Whether you check it out or not, I’ll give you the rundown. I fast drafted eight or nine chapters before I realized there was a problem with one of my secondary characters (ugh… I hate setbacks). So the plan was to take the project back into the workshop, so I could fix a few characters and polish up the outline and get right back to it. But I am not a plotter. It’s driving me crazy! I just have the ending to outline, and then I can finally get back to writing.

What I’ve been Watching

If you know me, you would know that I love old movies and TV shows. One day while looking for something to watch I stumbled upon dark shadows.

The Obscure Hollow: Dark Shadows (TV Series 1966-1971)

I watched a few episodes a while back, and I’ve been looking for it again for a while. I’m not sure what season I’m on anymore. I’ve binged so much of it I think my brain is going to turn into mush. I will say, currently as I’m writing this (April 24th) I have been dark shadows free for 2 days! But that’s only because I found out that ‘Batman: Begins’ is on Netflix.

Growing up, Batman was my favorite superhero. I grew up watching the old Batman and Robin show from the 60s. I was always disgusted with the dark approach the more recent films took. That was… until I found out Christian Bale plays Batman… Batman: Begins has been on my watch list ever since.

It was a great film! I wish I could say the same for ‘Dark Knight.’ I started it, and about 30 minutes in I decided it was too violent and intense and was going to give me anxiety for weeks. So I’m saving that one for another day.

Songs on Repeat

Fool’s Gold — Niall Horan. I had no idea this was a One Direction song! Lol, I found Niall’s version on Spotify and have literally been listening to it on repeat 24/7

First Light — Cinematic pop. It just kills me every time he says “It’s ironic, it’s funny, when eyes see perfection they cry.”

Somewhere only we know — Keane. I haven’t heard this song in a while, but it was playing at the grocery store and I’ve been listening to it over and over since.

The Blog

My most popular post: Book in Progress — Part Two: Too Much Inspiration?

One you might have missed: If I were A Disney Princess

This month I had 26 views, 16 likes, 4 posts (yikes), and gained 1 follower.

May’s book club edition is on the way, however, April’s wrap-up is going to be a little late. I just started the book last night…

Current Obsessions

I once bought this Aussie’s miracle curl refresher on accident. I misunderstood “Curl Refresher” as a sort of moose spray. Kind of like a beach wave spray. But in reality it’s just a detangler that also tames frizz.

I still used it though, and I’m really starting to enjoy it. It says to spray in damp hair, but I find that I get good results spraying it in dry hair. It really does tame frizz.

I’ve been trying to be mindful of the material of my clothing. Especially with summer approaching. I try to wear natural materials. I bought a green linen dress from Target a week or so ago, and I just love it! I wasn’t sure about the style at first, but my mom convinced me to get it.

Thanks a bunch!
