Writing Prompts Guaranteed to get you out of a Slump

Are you facing writers block? Going through a creative dry spell? Here are some of my favorite prompts and challenges for getting our of a slump!

Parodies

I love parodies! It’s so easy, all you do is rewrite your favorite book or movie in a different genre. Like Treasure Planet or Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. You could also change the gender of the main characters.

Fan-fiction

Are you still sore about that ship that never happened? Do you hate the ending of your favorite book? Do you wish you could live in the same world as your favorite characters? Fan-fiction is a great way to resolve all those feelings. I mean look at me, I’m completely rewriting the Rise of Skywalker because I hated it so much.

Fan-fiction is a great way to get rid of writers block. It’s easy because the world and the characters are already built for you. I have tons of fan-fic ideas but I have no time to write them.

Start with ‘Hello’

A while back I had terrible writers block so I decided to give this a try and it’s still to this day one of my favorite stories I’ve ever written. Just start with “hello” and see where it takes you.

Song lyrics

The challenge is to pick your favorite song and write a story using every lyric. I love doing this and some times I combine this challenge with a fan-fiction. (quick hint, Taylor Swift songs are a lot of fun).

Use a visual prompt

Inspiration can be easily found in art and photography. Check out my Pinterest boards for some inspo!

Edit/read/rewrite that story you wrote years ago

This might just put you in the mood to write, but even so, it’s a pep-talk in itself. It’s so much fun to see how far you’ve come. And maybe you might want to edit or rewrite while you’re there.

Read about writing

Hey, since you’re here, you might as well check out my ‘writing’ category! It’s just up there in the menu! Heck, you might learn something! Watching some writers on youtube is great too, just don’t get distracted.

Follow a prompt

I don’t really like them, but if this is your kind of thing you can find writing prompts pretty much everywhere.

Thanks a bunch!
